Ring Camera Information
Knowing Ring’s lineup can help you pick out the best Prime Day deals for yourself. It’s easy to find the biggest discounts, but of course, you should find deals for the Ring cameras that you need. You can read our Ring camera review for more information, or you can refer to this quick guide.
All in all, Ring offers four home security camera lines: the Ring Indoor Cam, Ring Stick Up Cam, Ring Spotlight Cam, and Ring Floodlight Cam. Within each lineup are several models, except for the Ring Indoor Cam.
Ring also launched this year a “car security camera,” called the Ring Car Cam. It functions as a dash cam and a security camera when your car is parked. More information below.
The Ring Indoor Cam
The Ring Indoor Cam is, obviously, an indoor camera. It’s the most affordable camera from Ring, but it offers all the essential features of an indoor camera. It has 1080p HD resolution, night vision, a decent viewing angle, two-way audio, and motion detection. It’s small enough to go almost anywhere, and its simple plug-in setup makes it easy to install. Here’s our Ring Indoor Cam review for more information.
Product | Regular Price |
---|---|
Ring Indoor Cam | $59.99 |
Ring Indoor Cam 2-pack | $119.98 |
Ring Indoor Cam 3-pack | $179.97 |
Ring Indoor Cam 4-pack | $239.96 |
Tip: It’s highly likely that we’ll see discounts on Ring Indoor Cam multi-camera packs on Prime Day. Start assessing how many indoor cameras you’ll need to maximize your savings.
The Ring Stick Up Cam
The Ring Stick Up Cam is a line of durable cameras that can be used either indoors or outdoors. It comes in several versions. There’s a battery-powered one, a plug-in type camera, a solar-powered model, and a version that uses Power over Ethernet (PoE) for power and internet connectivity. No matter the version, you’ll get 1080p resolution, wide viewing angle, motion detection, and night vision, among other useful features.
Additionally, there’s a special mount for the Ring Stick Up Cam that converts it into a pan-and-tilt camera. The mount plugs into a power outlet, and makes the Stick Up Cam rotate a full 360 degrees and tilt up to 90 degrees for a more complete view of your home. The pan and tilt functions are controlled through the Ring app.

FYI: Three-camera and four-camera packs are also available.
The Ring Spotlight Cam
The Ring Spotlight Cam is an outdoor camera lineup. Their most distinguishing feature is the built-in spotlight that shines a bright line on intruders. It can function as a normal spotlight as well, and since it provides enough light to illuminate the camera’s view, Spotlight Cams offer color night vision. Like the Stick Up Cam, it comes in a battery-powered, solar-powered, and plug-in version. There’s no PoE version, but there’s a hardwired version that easily replaces existing spotlights.
In addition, Ring announced two new Spotlight Cam versions during the Amazon hardware event last month, both of which with special features that can further bolster your home security. The Spotlight Cam Pro, for example, can track movements using radar, and can even map out your lawn and show you where a guest (or intruder) walked through. Both will become available later this month.

The Ring Floodlight Cam
Lastly, the Ring Floodlight Cam is a lineup of outdoor cameras equipped with floodlights. These floodlights are brighter than the spotlights on the Spotlight Cams. Ring Car Cam
The Ring Car Cam is a dual-camera system. The first camera faces forward and can function as a car dashcam while driving or to monitor the car’s surroundings while parked. The other camera is an inward-facing one, capable of recording the interior of the car.
Like the Ring home security cameras, the Ring Car Cam comes equipped with security features like motion detection, two-way audio, and real-time notifications, meant to protect your car when parked. It also offers GPS tracking, voice-controlled recording, and on-the-go LTE connectivity.
The Car Cam typically sells for $249.99.
Ring Protect Plans
The overall cost of Ring cameras is contingent on whether you’ll get a Ring Protect plan to cover your cameras. Ring Protect is Ring’s subscription service that provides cloud storage to Ring cameras and doorbells and professional monitoring for Ring Alarm systems.
You could opt not to get a subscription, but that would mean your cameras won’t record. That’s why we recommend getting a Ring Protect plan, particularly if you have multiple cameras. It’s not easy monitoring and attending to notifications from multiple cameras on your own.
Monthly, the Ring Protect Basic costs $3, or you can pay $30 yearly and save $6. It provides cloud storage for only one camera, though, so if you have two cameras, you’ll pay $6 per month, and if you have three, you’ll pay $9 per month. There are no discounts for multiple cameras, but that’s because the Ring Protect Plus plan is better suited for owners of multiple cameras.
At $10 per month or $100 per year, the Protect Plus plan provides 60 days of cloud storage to an unlimited number of cameras. The only condition is that all your cameras need to be installed at the same address. Otherwise, you’ll pay $10 per month per address.
FYI: If you’re a Ring Alarm user, the professional monitoring plan for the Ring Alarm also includes 60 days of cloud storage for an unlimited number of cameras. Read our Ring Alarm review for more information.
Ring Company Background
Ring wasn’t always an arm of Amazon, which has made 21 acquisitions in 2017 through 2018, including Ring for $1.2 billion in 2018.1 They began as a humble company called DoorBot that was actually rejected on the TV show Shark Tank, believe it or not.
But by 2018, they had a 97 percent market share of the U.S video doorbell market.2 Now, Ring sells products other than video doorbells like the Ring Video Doorbell Pro; obviously, they sell security cameras, the topic of this article, but also motion sensors, smart speakers like the Echo Dot with Clock and the Echo Flex, smart displays like the Echo Show 8, door/ window sensors, smart lighting, and other smart home offerings.
Did You Know: Before Amazon bought it for $1.2 billion, Ring was rejected on the venture capital show Shark Tank. Moral of the story? Never take no for an answer!
Ring’s story isn’t all inspirational. The company has gotten into trouble for both hackings of their cameras and their partnerships with over 400 local police departments in the U.S. Some consider Ring cameras to be surveillance devices, while many others see the Alexa integration as further recording. Amazon admits that its employees listen to these recordings to improve Alexa’s artificial intelligence, so when it comes to privacy, Ring is not the most trustworthy, given its track record.
That being said, Ring has addressed privacy concerns with a couple of key updates. Privacy zones, for example, have their cameras ignore designated areas of people’s homes. On certain cameras like the battery-powered Ring Stick Up Cam Battery, users can completely disable motion alerts, motion recording, and audio. We hope more of Ring’s cameras get these capabilities in the future, as that would help to build more trust in the company.
